Film: Monster from Green Hell (1957)
Alias: None
Type: Mutant
Location: Jungle/Mountain
Height/Weight: As big as two steamrollers in front of one another.
Affiliation: Neutral
Summary: They say that bees are the stinging insects everyone ought to fear, but what if we said there were worse things out there? Oh yes, wasps and hornets make a swarm of bees look like saints in comparison. And then you give it the classic 50's treatment...
History: Originally a group of normal wasps, they were used in one of many experiments to see how different animals adapt to being in a rocket in space. Unfortunately, the rocket malfunctioned and went careening into the perilous lands of tribal Africa. Making their home in a foreboding place known by the locals as "Green Hell", the mutated monster wasps terrorized both man and beast alike.
Notable Kills: There's an interesting scene in which a wasp is assaulted by a slightly larger than usual snake. The former manages to stab the latter with its mouthparts instead of its stinger.
Final Fate: During the assault on the queen's nest, the volcano they happened to all be near erupts, killing all the wasps in a blazing storm of fire and lava. Nature has cleaned up a very black spot on its canvas.
Powers/Abilities: While their flight has been neutralized to a degree due to their new size, the wasps still have an incredibly deadly sting capable of killing a man in seconds.
Weakness: Anything that can get past their hard exoskeletons.
Scariness Factor: 3.5-While some shots make the beasts look rather corny, the combination of stop-motion and large-scale puppetry makes for quite a sight. Also, the worst garden hazard is huge now. Damn.
Trivia: -The largest living wasp is the Asian Giant Hornet, or as we like to call it, THE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE THUMB-SIZED HELL-BEAST THAT DESTROYS AND ENSLAVES ENTIRE BEE COLONIES AND CAN SWARM AND KILL YOU IN SECONDS.
-The film was originally titled "Creatures from Green Hell", but copyright laws got in the way.
